A novel by Mr. Vargas Llosa made into a film, a disappointment when the characters take shape. The excellen-wonderful story, but film unfortunate.

Hollywood is not, they should have given it to Hollywood but they didn't. it looks like it was filmed entirely at night, there's no show of the country because everything looks like it took place at night maybe because of lack of funds or imagination. the acting, well I rather not comment on that, suffice is to say that to me is worth 2 stars. the Spanish version, we have Trujillo speaking Catalan like if he was born in Spain, and so is everyone else for that matter, from the top of the military to the bellhop.

I felt that the scene between Trujillo and Urania was unbelievably painful, unnecessary and gratuitous. Surely, it didn't have to last the half-hour to 45 minutes it seemed to last. Some of the acting was also abysmal. Tomas Milian, though, was excellent and, aside from the aforementioned scene, a joy to watch.

Interesante adaptación del libro de Llosa

After reading the novel, I wasn't really thinking this would be a great movie. It's a hard novel to translate to the screen in a two-hour film. I knew they were going to mix up the stories and transform many characters and situations, but it's not that bad. It is miscast, though. And well, since I have no idea of what to write about it, I guess it's not that interesting...it's just a visual companion to the novel, but it doesn't propose anything new, nor does it have enough depth to make it interesting on its own. A nice movie, but not necessary.
