- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIt's a classic! So, 5 stars. Very interesting plot, as the title suggests. Saw it on the tv set some yrs ago.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsA near perfect Gothic romance. It embraces all of the trappings of the genre but never does so without neglecting the characters. That Bernard Herman score is gorgeous, truly one of his best.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsObviously it's a film of it's time, but I saw it as a child and was charmed by it then, as I was today, more than half a century later.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsThe best part of the movie is in the last third, but there's some silliness one has to endure to get there.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsGreat acting, great set, great soundtrack. Though sometimes the music was a bit overdramatic it did fit the film very well. I also felt as if the affair between Miles and Lucy was too short for it's abrupt ending to have a big enough impact. Also the aging towards the end was a bit unimpressive but at least they tried. A very slow film, but I would definitely watch this again.
