The Gutter

Feels like a Zucker Brothers movie. They throw so much at the wall, but a lot of it sticks, a lot of it doesn't, and it's dumb!... It's not "good," but I laughed a lot.

In addition to ridiculous — think the Wayans brothers’ parody pictures, or “Napoleon Dynamite” — the humor is almost uniformly broad.

As with most comedies that throw everything out there (and throw common sense out the window) to get laughs, some bits and pieces don’t land. But the Lesters thankfully cram in enough ghettofabulous gags to keep me continuously giggling.

The Gutter — like an early Paul Beatty novel — seems destined to be a cult classic.

I can't remember the last time a comedy this stupid was so smart in its jokes. The Gutter is the kind of comedy that scares the hell out of distributors because it doesn't play it safe.

Laughter strikes from all sides in “The Gutter,” the kind of brash and boisterous broad comedy that has largely been missing from multiplexes in recent years.

You might find yourself howling at some scenarios in this film, even as you cringe at others (see Paul Reiser's character in particular). And maybe the laughs are enough.

A silly, stupid comedy about bowling, and I couldn’t stop laughing my ass off at it.

A film so unabashedly unserious that it reinvigorates a long-lost era of Wayans brothers-style humor.

The Gutter is an apt way to describe this trashy and stupid comedy about obnoxious people involved in bowling tournaments. The racist jokes aren't funny at all and shouldn't be excused just because African American filmmakers put these jokes in the movie.
