- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsBuilds from a slow start to a masterpiece. Dosen't promise to be good but delivers on it anyways. Quirky and fun for how depressing the plot may seem. Fresh Caught fish.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThe nerd is actually quite beautiful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsLoved this film! There's something honest and unflinching about the band of weirdos gathered at the school over break. We all had a teacher we hated, we all were let down by parents and we have all had a crappy boss, there's something universal and nostalgic about the story. The heart of the story is about looking a little deeper, however it lacks the sap and BS, choosing truth, grit and to laugh in the face of it all instead. Simultaneously uplifting and heartbreaking, take the ride, enjoy the incredible 70's setting and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsGreat. A real film about two guys that connect and change one another’s fate for the better. Not complicated. Simple. And meaningful. And really well acted. The whole cast is amazing.World needs more flicks like this.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars(NO SPOILERS) I'm uncertain of whether it's the script, cinematography, soundtrack, or the cast that shines brightest, but I'm just grateful to be alive today to bask in the glow of what I am certain is an enduring and timeless classic. The entire range of human emotion is on full display throughout the runtime of this cinematic masterpiece, served with heaping helpings of realistic and situational comedy, heart rending drama, and a positive message. My personal favorite moment comes right at the end, with one of the most clever uses of a plot device I've yet seen in my lifetime. It's a remarkably intelligent reveal, that I think gives the film instant re-watch value. The cinematography itself is also a particularly spectacular achievement. They managed to create one of the most authentic analog film feelings using only modern digital camera work, with breathtaking and impactful shots in every scene. None lingering any longer than they should. The cast contains veteran actor Paul Giamatti, as well as many new faces, including Dominic Sessa and Da'Vine Joy. Each breathing life -and so much more- into their respective roles. So many beautiful things shine through each performance, but none more so than pure humanity. If you own a screen (or even if you need to borrow one) I cannot recommend enough that you use it to watch this enduring work of art.
