The Houses October Built
audience Reviews
, 31% Audience Score- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsThe Houses October Built is more a documentary than an actual horror film... well, for the first 3/4 anyway. So, right up front, don't go in thinking this is a straight up horror film. If you go in expecting a full horror movie, you'll be disappointed. I actually found the first 3/4 quite interesting as the doco crew visited well-known scare houses (real attractions like Thrillvania and Blue Skeleton) and interviewed staff and visitors. The last 1/4 is the 'actual' horror story, which was alright. Overall, an interesting film, but it won't satisfy everyone.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsLoved, Halloween staple.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsIt is watchable but takes FOREVER to get to anything resembling a horror film, most of it plays like a documentary on Halloween attractions... which honestly would be more interesting than this turned out to be as a horror movie.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsGood horror movie. Very Creepy and effective.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsIt would have been good had it ended up being paranormal. Humans torturing humans needs to take a break as a concept.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsTop of the found footage films! It's a fun ride through the whole film. Definitely worthy of watching more than once!
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsGood mockumentary to get you in the mood for spooky season!
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsWas kinda lame. Forgettable characters, heavy reliance on post sound effects. Flimsy story. Lots of 'why don't you just call the police?' moments. Some of the haunted houses were neat and spooky. But my understanding is those attractions are real and independent of the film itself.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsNothing happens for most of the movie, we are just following a group of unlikeable people going from Haunt to Haunt with very little pay off or real event to forward the actually "plot." It takes most of the run time before they get to any point at all and most of which is very avoidable so in turn makes it less threatening and what they do go through isn't worth being bored for half the runtime anyway. The camera work was to bad for you to see anything that was really going on, it almost gave me a headache trying to focus on what they where stressing out about so it ending up just me listening to people scream for about 90 mins. My final thoughts are it's just a messy movie that could have been something cause the concept for an extreme haunt could be fun and spooky but they failed to deliver either. Maybe a little more time needs to be taken on a good story next time!
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsA gem that has been added to my (go to) halloween season watch list. Super creepy and will make you think twice about where and who's haunted house attractions you may dare to visit.
