It's every bit the ridiculous sci-fi adventure comedy I expect from films in the 80's. What's not to love? It's a masterpiece.

This movie is cheap, campy, with zero grade fx, no laughs, and no decent action, With lame scenes that rip off Logan's Run and Rollerball. And movie has an abrupt ending, like they ran out of money, That said, nobody in the cast phoned it in, They give their all, Everyone looks like they are having a good time,

It's definitely no Star Trek or Star Wars. And the story of marauding pirates is nothing new. However an All-Star cast of Robert Urich, Angelica Huston, John Carradine & Ron Perlman makes up for that. In spite of that Some of best acting is from the robots. The part where the pirates bring the animals on board is kind of cute. It's definitely a gross out comedy. It has moments of hilarity. Especially the scene with the unix. And the scene where the pirates are escaping with the princess. If you like your humor on the crude side this film is for you. It's watchable.

It's actually a decent movie. It is cliche, but entertaining.

It's one of my "go to" movies. It's hilarious, it's stupid, it's WTF. It's everything you want in a Saturday afternoon popcorn movie. It's not quite as good as The Last Starfighter but is better than Battle Beyond the Stars. Now that I've written this, I know what I'm fishing out of my CD folder to watch tonight.

The Ice Pirates is a fun, silly, ridiculous romp through a campy future where water is incredibly scarce and pirates have to hijack ships controlled by the evil Templars laden with ice in order to survive. It's meant to be a ridiculous, tongue-in-cheek parody of traditional space operas like Star Wars, and in that it succeeds in spades. The fact that the production went through Hell to make the film, including funding cuts, barely-there support, and even a Company exec who tried to can the project while stealing money from the company, and still managed to produce a movie that will make you laugh out loud half a dozen times, is a testament to its good-natured, over-the-top charm. And there's also the space herpe. I crack up just writing that.
