The Image of You

This hysterical, over-the-top thriller takes the exhausted-beyond-all-belief plot device about twin sisters for a spin, and the result is a bumpy ride from start to finish.

The ripe naffness on show makes it somehow entertaining, especially as you can tell the film knows it’s naff.

There are gigantic plot holes and an extremely contrived conclusion, but it’s a ballsy swing and Fisher nearly pulls it off. He’s counting on us relaxing into the unreality and not really caring if the story makes any sense.

The plot is so deranged that we can't help but enjoy the increasingly frenzied nastiness, even if the suspense doesn't quite grab hold.

It's fairly tense, but more or less a by-the-numbers thriller.

The Image of You will not be the start of a resurgence of erotic thrillers, but it does stand out in today’s more sterile cinematic landscape. It is the type of entertaining fluff there is not enough of anymore.



The Image of You proves how horribly things can go wrong when being trashy is the primary goal. Instead of generating entertainment, the self-indulgent, winking tone turns oppressive pretty quickly.

An overwrought, preposterous and clunky mess.
