After such high expectations from the first movie this is a poor and pale shadow of the first. It killed the francise. Too bad it could not replicate the charm and fun of the first movie.

Romancing of the stone is my favorite movie, this, most definitely, is not. Where the first movie is campy and fun, this one is campy, but in a sad painful way. The characters lack the natural, fun dynamic of the first movie. Yes, they dislike each other in the first movie, but that seems natural and they both learn and grow. The second movie backtracks on this and flattens the characters out. Not even Danny Devito is funny in this.

Direct sequel to Romancing the Stone with different character dynamics and a less tangible plot with a focus that is less physical and more spiritual than it's predecessor. It's a good thing they stopped here.

Whilst I've been watching Romancing the Stone, I've decided to watch a sequel, The Jewel of the Nile. I was thinking about both of them films are as good as each other but in the recent years, it seems deteriorated because it's not as good as the first film. I remember watching it when I was a big kid back in 2007. The action scenes were pretty good. Lots of explosions and gun noises. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner are back and Danny DeVito is back as a crook again and this time he teams with Jack Colton to find Joan Wilder in Arabia near Africa. Omar who is a villain who has the jewel, the jewel of the nile who Arabians called him ''Al-Julhara''. So they found Joan, escape from Omar and fly the jet aircraft and Ralph is left all alone with Arabians. They go to the African people, go to the train and got kidnapped by Omar. The Jewel of the Nile is not as good as Romancing the Stone but it's still good. The song that Billy Ocean sings is good. "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going." I like that song even though Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito singing along with Billy. As long as he film gets cheesy, it's still an enjoyable movie that has it's moments.

A rare sequel that is as corny and lovable as the original.

Like many sequels, The Jewel of the Nile doesn't quite reach the heights of the original movie. The ingredients are all there—exotic settings, romantic tension, quick banter—but they just don't come together as well as they do in Romancing the Stone. It's an amusing story, but without the clever writing of Diane Thomas or Robert Zemeckis directing, it feels like a generic adventure movie, even with Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas leading the charge. I also feel like shoehorning Danny DeVito's character into the plot was a mistake. It's not a bad movie, it's just a run-of-the-mill follow-up.

The original had more adventure so it was fun. I believe they made this sequel just for fun.

The absence of Robert Zemeckis, who was working on Back to the Future, and Romancing the Stone's screenwriter, who tragically died before the movie came out, is felt. But I felt this sequel was really not the abomination everybody makes it out to be. The actors are still doing their best, despite being so reluctant to do this sequel, the duology's main trio turned down a third movie in favour of The War of the Roses. The set pieces are still fun and, in some respects, more memorable than the original due to the sacred duty of a sequel to up the ante. And I still think the romance and comedy are executed well enough, despite the character arcs requiring some good old-fashioned sequel rehashing. Also, the Billy Ocean song is fun. The Jewel of the Nile is more guilty of being an Indiana Jones knockoff than its predecessor but it honestly didn't come off to me as a travesty, despite being rushed out the door while the memory of Romancing the Stone was still fresh in audiences' minds. It's still a fun adventure that just needed its cast and crew to be more enthusiastic after Zemeckis bailed.
