Don’t let the bitterness of lifeless people with no taste detour you from watching this movie. Very good from every angle

All Time Classic. Yeah it has the Hollywood treatment at times like the fact Tom cruise can be the sole survivor of two gattling guns in a open field and some other over the top moments. I'm also sure there are plenty of historical inaccuracies near the end too. But man....this is really good. The production value is just amazing. The costumes, the on location setting, the world of the samurai, the direction is all first rate. The end battle is just epic as well. It's the themes of a New Hollywood Western like the Wild Bunch mixed with a Samurai Movie with Tom Cruise. To it's credit also it never feels like it goes too slow either. This is a fast epic but never rushed and takes it's time exploring the themes and we learn the way of the Samurai and watch Cruise go from a disfranchised Captain to The Last Samurai. It has nothing but respect for the culutre it explores and the characters are fasinating as well. Even if your not familiar with Japanese History you can still follow this and get into it easily. The music is really good too though I wish it was a bit more catchy. Everything else though is truly first rate. Cruise is really good here and the supporting cast makes him even better. They keep him grounded the entire time. It's a moving epic about the last days of an ancient way of life with a message about moving forward but being respectful of our traditions and history for every culture. Everyone should give this a try once.

E a cereja no topo do bolo? Gloriosas cenas de batalha, feitas com dezenas — talvez centenas — de verdadeiros figurantes e cavalos, filmadas em verdadeiras localidades, com verdadeiras explosões, como todo épico deveria ser.

One of Tom Cruise's best performances. On a physical and emotional level he delivers great work whilst speaking very authentic Japanese for his character's situation. It's a well-directed epic with a terrific supporting cast of Japanese actors. One of Hans Zimmer's best scores too. Very underrated film.

Beautiful movie with a strong story, good cinematography, epic scores by Hans Zimmer, great cast, the battle scenes are so well made and look realistic and Tom Cruise gives one of the best performances.

Super weird!! The voiceover narration is awful, Cruise maximizes his yelling potential, the production and performances are solid.

While it’s definitely the kind of historical fiction epic that was marketed as an American star vehicle and couldn't be today, The Last Samurai puts Tom Cruise in 19th century Japan and a story that sheds light on the samurai culture for beginners and ties it together with a strong supporting cast, beautiful visuals and satisfying battles.

Cruise is in his element as a feeler and a fighter that redeems his own story.
