Wow! I did not expect half of the craziness that goes on in this highly imaginative movie. A night out turns into an unending, fun, roller-coaster experience for the audience, while the young girl protagonist remains unphased and takes it all in stride. A very fun ride.

From the moment the opening credits rolled, I found myself immersed in a world I hadn't quite expected: an animated one. "The Night is Short, Walk On Girl" took me on a whirlwind adventure that I hadn't anticipated, reminiscent of beloved animated series like "Adventure Time" and "Steven Universe." At its core, this film is a delightful romp through imagination. It begins with a burst of energy, diving headfirst into a series of escapades that keep you on your toes. The adventurous spirit is palpable, and it's easy to get swept away by the fast-paced narrative. However, what truly sets this film apart is its ability to seamlessly transition from adventure to musical spectacle. As the story progresses, it gradually slows down, inviting viewers to revel in its musical numbers and introspective moments. While some may find this shift in pace jarring, I found it to be a welcome change of pace that added depth to the overall experience. Throughout the film, humor is sprinkled generously, providing moments of levity that balance out the more introspective scenes. These comedic interludes not only serve to entertain but also serve as a reminder of the boundless creativity at play. But perhaps the most remarkable aspect of "The Night is Short, Walk On Girl" is its ability to ignite the imagination. As I watched the film unfold, I found myself swept away on a journey of my own creation, spurred on by the limitless possibilities presented on screen. In conclusion, "The Night is Short, Walk On Girl" is a film worth experiencing. It may start off as a wild adventure, but it evolves into something much more profound—a testament to the power of imagination and the magic of storytelling. So, if you're looking for a movie that will take you on a journey through the depths of your imagination, look no further than this enchanting tale.

It's more a full season of Tatami Galaxy condensed in one movie. The director is know for his wildly creative animated movies, some of them I really love, but this time it's a little too much for my taste as the frenetic pace, the sudden jump between sub-stories make it hard to feel involved with what's going on. At the end, it's really about the absurd humor and visuals that keeps you watching but when the movie is over you barely remember what happened.

Quickly became an all-time favorite for me. A slice of life story that truly captures the excitement and feeling of a wild summer night out when you were young. Highly encourage English-speakers to watch the English dub so they don't miss a second of the gorgeous animation. This movie instantly puts me in a good mood. After spending 2020 unable to go out to bars, or do anything even close to what this movie portrays, it makes me excited and optimistic for when I can do these things again, rather than feel morose for what I have missed. Go pour yourself your favorite cocktail. The night is short! Go watch this movie!

'The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl,' based on the novel by Tomihiko Morimi and directed by Masaaki Yuasa, is a film that I have been yearning to watch for quite some time. After waiting for the right time to watch it, it finally came to be that the day I watched it was today. It seemed like the right time for two reasons: One, I had just finished watching 'The Tatami Galaxy' (which I had viewed in preparation for this movie and enjoyed very much) this afternoon, and two, I was feeling a little bit down from all the news and viewpoints of our current social situation being thrown around and was in dire need of something that would liven me up again. 'The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl' did just that! In the city of Kyoto, a young raven-haired university student sets off on a night of fun, adventure, and plenty of colorful alcoholic beverages to spare. During this time, she encounters an idiosyncratic group of Kyoto residents and dances her way through one incredible situation after another, charming everyone along the way with her optimistic personality and her high tolerance for liquor. Elsewhere, another university student pathetically strives to meet up with her and win her heart, constantly getting bogged down by a series of inconvenient obstacles. Running at just an hour-and-a-half, 'The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl' feels like an adrenaline rush of unlikely circumstances and fantastical occurrences. Multiple events occur within the span of the night in which this movie is set. To name a few without spoiling the movie, there's a drinking contest with a supernatural being, a search for a long-lost children's book, and a guerilla theatre production featuring fabulous musical numbers, all pulled from the pages of Morimi's novel and brought to life with some of the most whimsical and hallucinatory works of animation ever seen in a film. By the end of the film, I felt as though the night I had experienced with the raven-haired hero had lasted an eternity, and I enjoyed every single minute of it. It's a gorgeous, candy-colored dreamlike experience with an all-out sense of wacky sweetness, and I doubt I'll be seeing anything like this for a while. For anyone with even a slight interest in animation, this is an essential watch. For those willing to go the extra mile, I highly recommend viewing 'The Tatami Galaxy' in advance.

Before the simultaneously released and more favorable "Lu Over the Wall", visionary director Masaaki Yuasa inconsistently distorted and ridiculed the slice of life classic structure with zany hilarity and high-minded expressivity that will both weird out and enchant the viewer over the characterization, but mainly charmed by the eponymous heroine's resonating encrypted way of life. I have just recently started exploring anime movies and I have not been let down. This movie is weird and different from anything I have ever watched. It's a 2 star movie if you can't keep up with the pace of this surreal plot but a better one when you begin understanding the meaning hidden in plain sight. The experience is highly subjective but hard hitting nevertheless. The movie cleverly commentates on adolescence, adulthood, philosophy, love, loneliness and other wide subjects in a refreshing manner. Would definitely want to see what the creator has to offer more.
