The Persian Version
audience Reviews
, 93% Audience Score- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsKind of a basic culture clash story with elements of knocked up. Lacked a little focus.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsI have no idea about what religious groups are offended by this movie, or why—so here’s an impartial review. (Only of the first half hour, unfortunately, because that’s when I switched it off.) First off, the leading lady is not actually starring in a movie. She auditioned for a role, she didn’t get it, and they’re vindictively showing us the auditioning scenes to prove how bad she was. Next up: A discussion of bisexuality suddenly turns to the topic of... US-Iran politics. An American news channel is playing somewhere in Iran. No-one in a huge extended family is watching, so... the scene switches to the question of why the leading lady only trusts art. This switches abruptly to a family disagreement where it’s not clear who is related in what way to whom (there’s TV again, but in Persian this time) — and this is approximately when you might want to change the channel.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThough it doesn't have the greatest representation of what it truly is to be a mother and a daughter it still has some brilliant representation. I think this movie is definitely something that correlates with many second generation immigrant daughters and their immigrant mothers. It's not easy being a woman or a first gen/second gen immigrant. So findign something they may relate to is very refreshing. Absoloutley a movie I do love to rewatch and personally cry to often. I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea but for those who's it is, they most likely truly do connect with it emotionally.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI saw the Persian version and let me start off by saying I’m Persian so I’m completely biased. As an Iranian American, I really enjoyed this movie because it’s something you don’t see often. I’ve seen representation on screen in the past but this was different. I’ve seen movies made for Iranians and I’ve seen Iranians as side characters in tv and film. But this felt like it was for a non Iranian audience. They showed a lot of things that I’ve experienced in my culture, but did it in a way that explains what happened. It felt like the audience was meant to experience what the main character was feeling in real time. There were things I didn’t exactly love and some of the things in the movie were a little over exaggerated, but overall I did like it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsa touching story that has some trouble balancing it’s comedic and serious tones. and i don’t think narration is immediately a bad quality in a film, but there is a lot here. probably too much, in my opinion.
