🇬🇧 Review in English "The Personal History of David Copperfield": in one word, boring. Despite a promising cast and colorful visuals, the film lacks pacing and emotional depth. The storytelling feels fragmented and rushed, making it hard to connect with the plot or characters. A missed opportunity for such a rich classic.

A lovely, fun retelling of Dickens story- well acted, great scenery: just a pleasant entertaining movie where good triumphs and the bad guys get theirs.

A joy to watch from beginning to end. I am sure Dickens would be delighted with this adaptation.

I watched 40 minutes with my wife before stopping to look up reviews and confirm that its not just me… This movie feels like a rushed theatre club excitedly performing an incessantly long David Copperfield themed improv scene with exaggerated characters acting manically. The plot moves quickly, people speak quickly, and often speaking nonsense. I feel like the actors don’t even believe the characters they’re portraying.

So well shown how ridiculously people behave with a baby 😄 I remember wondering what the heck they were up to 😵‍💫

Even with sporadic quirky charm well-delivered by certain cast, it doesn’t mutually uphold worthwhile engagement except for those who admire the material’s literature canon, otherwise it’s eventfully unsatisfactory. (B-)

is it incredibly faithful to the book? not particularly. was it very lovely anyway? yes!

I'm not convinced that a Whimsical film adaptation is entirely appropriate for Dickens. That said it is enjoyable enough to warrant a viewing.
