The Seed of the Sacred Fig

I nearly didn’t watch the film as it is long and my back was in pain. But I’m so glad I did, I was gripped the whole way through. The relatively quiet family domestic life changes before our eyes into shock, tension and ultimately a brilliant allegorical thriller about a repressive regime both inside and outside the home. For people to make these sort of films at such great personal risk, makes it all the more powerful and arresting.

It's a simple film shot in scenes of everyday life but it conveys the fear of dictatorships and the cancerous denunciations that they entice in a manner of reminiscent of the 2008 movie The Boy in Striped Pajamas. Setting aside all historical discussion regarding the latter film, both show the pernicious way in which fascist regimes insidiously push their perpetrators deeper and deeper into the cogs of an unescapable machine that leads them to betray, or at the very least mistrust, even their closest friends, even their spouses and children. Specifically because it is filmed in everyday ordinary setting, the downfall of the servant of the dark power into the deepest and most unexpected chamber of Hell is so revealing. The Seed of the Sacred Fig is a masterpiece warning especially in the turbulent times of 2025.

I didn’t expect it to take the turn that it does but once it did I thought it was highly compelling storytelling. Extremely moving and thought-provoking. I’ll be thinking about this one for a while.

Es un triller que mantiene el tono de suspenso durante toda su duración, realmente al ser una crítica tan frontal, esperaba más justificación ante una Confusión familiar tan superficial, el final, totalmente innecesario y la falta de comunicación familiar en la historia nos dice que si... Los problemas familiares muchos son tan intensos como innecesarios, el final afloja el interés buscando el desenlace ante una familia que se desconoce por completo justificando un conflicto externo para asediar la figura masculina y victimizar a la femenina, aún cuando el padre fue circunstancialmente metiéndose en algo inevitable y de lo cual dependía su futuro y que su familia jamás entendió. El final repito se aflojó por completo, y aunque tiene. Bellas imágenes simbólicas la trama ruega por ayuda.

Amazing yet sad movie about the disastrous government in Iran. A must see

Wonderful movie that captures the essence of the political tensions in Iran that leak into the lives of individuals and families. This movie was based on the time of the Mahsa Amini riots.

This political thriller about a family and the struggle of Iranian women is a real gem. The use of real footage of protests gives the film its realism, in addition to the acting, aesthetics and rhythm, all of which flow naturally between peaks of fear and beauty. The film opens a window on the disrupted routine of a family that embodies the fractures at the heart of a country.

An important film which shows another example of how so many people stuff up this wonderful world. Could have been shorter though.

I found myself not breathing at certain points, which is the sign of a film that's working, While watching, I felt the last half hour was crazy melodrama that detracted from the whole but I've only just left the cinema and will think on it. Iman started as a sympathetic character and descended into madness because he was forced to act against his instincts. Najmeh started as a numbskull and grew in stature because she listened to her daughters. So many ethical dilemmas for all of them.

Very good movie. I wasn't bored for a second of the 160 minutes. Really worth while. The story is very compelling and the acting is very good.The second/final part of the movie just wauuw
