This is that movie that feels like a car crash that you simply can’t look away from. You love it and you hate it but once you start it you can’t stop it.

Twilight meets the After series in this tortured teen romance from Italy that features an excellent lead performance and murky undertones of childhood loss and trauma.

Overall, The Tearsmith is a teen romance suitable for younger audiences who aren’t old enough to know any better.

The Tearsmith is an utterly confusing, absolutely uninteresting mess of a movie. With no redeeming qualities, one can only hope that these clearly passionate teenage actors get more chances to participate in projects worthy of their time.

The Tearsmith doesn’t really ever address the potential ickiness of this... Maybe this theme found fuller expression in the novel, but in the film, it can’t align itself with the overdone riffing on fairy tales, wolves, and innocent damsels.

If someone were to compile a comprehensive list of young adult romance genre tropes, it would likely be a spitting image of Netflix’s The Tearsmith.
