The Town

- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsI feel like the best part of this movie was the ending. Problem is you have to watch the whole movie to get there.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsCan we talk about Blake Lively's performance? i had to look up the cast to confirm it was her. If you've ever known the "type" she plays in this, you know she nailed it. Good crime movie!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is Affleck at his finest. Self direction must be the key because Bens acting is so good here. Lots of intense suspense. I could crack walnuts with my ass watching this.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsThe Town is a gritty bank heist film starring Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner. I thought the movie had depth and followed a credible crime narrative, building suspense around whether the crew would get caught or if someone would eventually turn on the others. The ending was conclusive, yet still left room for speculation, which I appreciated. The director did a solid job developing each character, giving the audience a chance to understand their backgrounds and motivations before heading into the final act and the big heist. This made the payoff more engaging. The writing was creative, offering a mix of tense, well-planned heist sequences and character-driven moments. The plot twists were well-executed, and everything came together nicely by the end. That said, while I respect the craftsmanship, it’s not a movie I’d rush to watch again. It’s good for what it is, but not something that stuck with me in a lasting way. Maybe I’ll revisit it years from now—but it’s not a must-rewatch for me.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThis is the movie represents the true colors of Boston and surrounding areas and the old country codes of silence that gripped neighborhoods. Can’t get more Boston than The Town.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsThis feels like the true legacy of what America is in every way. However, every aspect of this movie felt like borrowed from better movies, and this didn't quite reach it. Also felt like the weakest of the first three movies directed by Affleck. But I didn't know Jeremy Renner had this in him. The cops could've been just a little bit more developed instead of feeling almost like copaganda even when they're not the protagonists and this would've been much better.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsit was a nice movie...
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThe Town is the kind of crime drama that sticks with you—not just because of the gunfire and armored trucks, but because of the pain behind the eyes of the guy holding the trigger. Ben Affleck pulls double duty here—directing and starring—and nails both. As Doug MacRay, a bank robber born into Charlestown’s generational cycle of crime, he’s all quiet charisma and coiled regret. He wants out, but in a town like this, clean slates are a fantasy. The heists? Top-tier. The Fenway Park sequence alone is a masterclass in tension and geography. But what makes The Town more than just another gritty Boston shoot-em-up is its emotional core. Doug’s relationship with Claire (Rebecca Hall), a hostage-turned-love-interest, gives the story stakes that matter. You actually care what happens when things start to go sideways. Then there’s Jeremy Renner, who absolutely detonates the screen as Jem—a live wire with a death wish and a loyalty so fierce it’s terrifying. His Oscar nom wasn’t a fluke. He’s the soul of the film’s darker side, a guy who sees no future beyond the next job. Affleck directs with confidence—clean lines, no fat, and a real feel for his city. He shoots Boston like a place that’s both home and trap. The film is tough, sure, but never tries too hard to prove it. It earns every bruise.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThese divas planned multiple, matching outfit changes! A heist film that understands the heist itself is often the highlight of the film. Therefore, it includes multiple heists that all deliver insane action highlights. It’s an extremely rewatchable blast of crime drama that’s especially beloved by viewers in the town it’s set in. This film was the spark that ignited the Ben Affleck resurgence, as he proved he was still a wickedly talented actor as well as a promising director. Jon Hamm is reliable as usual and Jeremy Renner is phenomenal, delivering one of the best performances of his career. It doesn’t get more Boston than a fight breaking out in Fenway Park!
