The Tree of Blood

I love stories about intricate family trees, and I liked the way this one was told, with the branches slowly intertwining. Unfortunately, the film was long more because it was slow than because it was intricate. The settings are beautiful, keeping the viewer's attention while the plot drags on. But the twist about the origins of the protagonists made it worth it.

A new story, told a new way. Full of symbolic, artistic interpretation of life's events. The concept of narrative, the illusion of perception, and insight of varied perspective, all delivered with the masterful and inspired vision of writer/director Julio Medem. Must see.

This movie exhibits love passion family and affairs in a remarkably memorable and authentic manner. The acting of the mother who gave us a glimpse of mental disorder and how it authentically reveals itself in real life was truly beautiful.

If you want to laugh then this movie will do. The direction is confusing and very predictable at the same time which just makes it worse. I gave it one star because of the amazing locations and the regional background, without them I probably would have stopped watching after the first 5 minutes.

Best film hands down that I have seen in a long time.

Ni a propósito se puede hacer una película tan mala. Guión inverosímil tirando a ridículo, repetición de recursos innecesaria y auto homenajes que no entran ni con calzador en la historia.

I loved every moment of this movie. Nothing was predictable. I watched it with my very good friend and we were both blown away.

The Tree of Blood has some of the usual characteristics of Julio Medem's cinema. A lot is based on chance or coincidence and the timelines can create some obscure situations. I didn't find the story as strong as previous efforts (I really liked Los Amantes Del Circulo Polar) still though this is a quite engaging film that would appeal to Julio Medem fans

Powerful and beautiful

Stories woven within a story of a young couple who choose to write a book together to share the details of how they fell in love. Enshrouded in a seemingly simple love story is the deeper stories of their loved ones hiding a painful past and leading to decisions for a redemptive future. This movie is art with symbolism and even sound effects subtly fabricating a hypnotic tale of love, murder, passion, and death. It will be a delight for the discerning viewer.
