The Virgin Suicides
audience Reviews
, 81% Audience Score- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt is completely impressive that "The Virgin Suicides" is the first feature film that Sofia Coppola directed. This movie is a fascinating twist on the coming-of-age genre by taking a bleak and melancholy approach. This movie utilizes perspective as a way to tell many different stories that center around tragic events involving these characters. Even though it is a sad movie, there are moments of many emotions that make it a unique watch. I do think the story left me wanting a bit more, but the characters were interesting, and I found myself invested enough. I think where the movie stands out is the vibe and visual style, which are both paired nicely with the soundtrack. Overall, even though Sofia Coppola doesn't rank among my all-time favorite directors, I think she is someone who truly found her voice, and it is clearly evident all the way back as early as this movie.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThe Virgin Suicides is one of my favourite films, an a almost flawless film incredibly well directed by the debutant Sofia Coppola. The Virgin Suicides is one of the most elegant films at portraying complex things, such as suicide or depression. The film also makes a great job making you care abouth the characters, and apreciate any single moment you are with them. Especially Lux is one of the most tridimensional characters I ve seen on any film, perfectly bring to life by Kirsten Dunst. With some heavily disturbing moments, such as the beggining and some beautiful ones, such as the car scene, you will not be the same once the credits are rolling down.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAs a girl watching this i could honestly relate to the Lisbon sisters a lot. This movie (and Sofia Coppola) depicts girlhood so well that i felt a sense of deja vú while watching.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsSuch an interesting compelling story being told in this film. This is a movie you kind of just have to watch and experience rather than read reviews to see if you'll like it or not. Very emotionally intense
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThis hypnotic film feels like youth exactly the way you remember it. It moves too slow and is full of longing and anticipation. It sounds, looks, and moves like nostalgia. But like all the good times, it's fleeting and punctuated with pain and consequential mistakes. A lovely and beguiling tale of privilege failing to protect youth and innocence.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsSofia Coppola has done an excellent job cinematographically. There is almost no difference between the book and the movie, there is no originality, but this does not change the movie in a bad way in any way, on the contrary, it helps us understand the Lisbon sisters better.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsHazy, summery, yet something hypnotic and haunting. Impressive to be able to create suspense and mystery around a story where you know the ending right from the start, the soundtrack is perfect, and the way the story is told and why is very interesting to reflect on. I appreciated the length but at the same time it left me wanting more; I can see this being something I rewatch multiple times. “You’re not even old enough to know how bad life gets”
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsThe Virgin Suicides is an interesting film that I'm not sure how I feel about. Certain films can kind of have this kind of unique, dream-like atmosphere, such as La La Land or Persona that make them hard to know how I feel about it. The Virgin Suicides doesn't give us many answers, and relies mostly on that atmosphere, but is done very well. It's been half a year since I saw this, and I still can't figure out the meaning of the ending.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsDirected by the critically acclaimed, Francis Ford Coppola’s daughter Sofia: A melancholy look at a household full of over-disciplined, under-appreciated beautiful young female teens in 1971, struggling with a tragic and horrific death in the family and trying to live a somewhat normal social life. If you can relate to making out with girls in high school? You can relate to THIS! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️out of five. Great 😌 film!
