Visually, very nice. Appropriately moody and foreboding with solid camera direction that doesn't distract or overwhelm. The creature reveals are restrained, subtle and sufficiently creepy. The dialogue is the film's downfall, however. The conversations are contrived and melodramatic, and the constant, laboured verbal exposition throughout the entire movie, apart from being a lazy storytelling technique, is monotonous. Nothing is left to the imagination and, for anyone vaguely familiar with horror dialogue tropes, the twist is predictable well before the reveal. As for the climax, it's underwhelming, drawn out and emotionally detached. This, however, is possibly due to Ms Fanning's performance as the protagonist, which is itself quite shallow and unenthusiastic, making it difficult to muster any emotional investment in her character before the end credits roll.

The Watchers (2024) is a decent movie overall, but it can be quite boring at times. The pacing drags in certain parts, and it didn’t really feel intense or eye-catching like I expected. There were moments where the story failed to grip me, making it a bit of a dull watch. While the concept and some scenes have potential, the execution leaves something to be desired, lacking that edge to keep you fully engaged. It’s good enough for a single viewing, but I don’t see it holding up well on repeat watches. I can’t give it a solid rating because it’s kind of boring and doesn’t deliver the intensity or excitement that would make it stand out. Overall, it’s a movie that might appeal to some but felt underwhelming and somewhat forgettable for me.

Ishana waltzes onto the stage of the Shyamalan-iverse with an exciting premise and totally game Dakota Fanning performance, but is ultimately undone by her relentlessly hammy storytelling, contrived dialogue, and thin characterization--all of which do nothing to elevate an entirely unconvincing and somewhat pretentious third act.

Absolutely nothing works here. The film starts with an interesting atmosphere in the first 15 minutes, but what follows is ridiculous and completely implausible. An absolute waste of time — even for horror fans.

Im surprised it have low ratings, this movie started out confusing, you have more questions than answers but they progress as the movie goes on, I like how the movie gives a backstory of the mysterious events that unfold. I like a movie that explains itself, its 2025 and I haven’t seen a good film since this one came out.

I have no words to express how bad this movie was. I just finished the book which is brilliant so was eager to watch the movie as was intrigued as to how it had been adapted. Whilst the book is beautifully written, with palpable tension, buildup and intense atmosphere, amazing descriptions of the characters, the coop, the forest, all of this is completely missing from the film. And what happened with the golden conure (the bird) who is a full blown ‘character’ in the book?! One of the worst movies I have ever watched and terrible casting. None of the actors work. However I do strongly encourage people to read the book. Am starting the sequel next: ‘Stay in the light’ (another crucial piece missing from the movie).

Found it tense but the plot twist was sadly predictable. Stilll worth a watch for a chill movie night, the plot is really interesting so I enjoyed it.

I’m a scary movie fan and also an M. Night Shymalan fan, but this movie directed by his daughter is plodding, uneven and aimless. The acting is good and there are some scary moments but it otherwise flounders due its lack of any other character development and lack of story direction. Too many unbelievable twists (no one before Fanning would have found the underground chamber because it was under the rug? Fanning just drives deep into the strange forest without finding out numerous people have been disappearing there? She goes down into the terrifying creatures’ burrow immediately? Groan). You can also often tell a that a movie is in trouble when it relies on a long, narrated “surprise” discovery at the end to explain itself. Watchers has that and a desperate “wrap up” in the last 10 minutes that makes it look like Ms. Shymalan didn’t know how to end this movie. Overall, Watchers reminded me of an aspiring horror director’s first movie they would make in film school—it has its moments but it’s overall sophomoric.
