The Way We Speak
audience Reviews
, 84% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAn excllent film. I watch few films but caught this one on a plane. What struck me most was the very moving relationship between Harrington and his wife. The choice she made. His career commitment at the expense not only of her feelings but also all matters numinous and inexplicable. I am not religious but the film deals expertly with the limits of rationalism.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsWhat struck me, was that for much of this film the characters are debating ideas of God, science, and love. They could continue these conversations forever, the world could change dramatically around them, but people would still be talking about these things. It has a timeless quality, especially when you add in the universal human experience of grief, and how the emotions that move around in our bodies after the loss of a loved one influence how we view these topics. The film itself is beautifully shot, and the writing, especially in the debate scenes, is really impressive.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsExcellent film. The plot is woven intelligently while also having a constant emotional undertone throughout. I found myself engaged and curious until the very end. I was left contemplating complex topics that challenged my beliefs and opinions, and that feeling persisted long after the credits had rolled. The acting is nuanced and grounded. Each character is unique and is brought to life through truthful performances. They all have a raw feeling of a living, breathing human being. To top it off the cinematography and imagery is rich and vibrant, drawing the eye, but not taking away from the intriguing dialogue taking place. Would definitely recommend.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsThe performances and clean cinematic construction earn the stars for this movie. The writing and concept are garbage. If you need to feel intellectual without an intellect watch this movie. “Wow” we debate the existence of god. “Wow” the thematic motif of this film parallels the very issue central to the discussion of this film. Boring, unimpressive story with decent storytellers and performers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsJust such a powerful film -- simple, subtle, true.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA captivating, thoughtful, beautiful film.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsOne of the best written and acted scripts. Everything about this movie felt so real.
