I LOVE this movie. Hero of the Rails is in my top 5 Thomas the Train movies because of how this is the first movie in full CGI. Knowing how bad the Nitrogen era is(Seasons 13-16) this was one of the only good things about it. I love Victor and Kevin in this movie and the Steelworks is a great location for the show, and setting it up in the 1st movie makes the movie better. But somethings I hate about the movie is 1st, as someone who loves the model stuff and the lore with that. It hurts to have Hero be the 1st engine on Sodor over Edward. 2nd, What is Spencer doing with Percy's mail cars? I get that he found where Percy hid them, but how does no one see them behind him once he steals them. Like where does he hide them? Finally, THE NARRATOR NEVER SHUTS UP. I love Micheal Brandon, but the engines can talk on there own. He takes up about 1/4 of the time with pointless dialogue. Overall a great movie just cut down the pointless dialogue and this could be my favorite Thomas movie.

Very nicely done. Great first piece for the CGI era. Only thing is the narrator never shuts up.

With the newest transition of the show moving from practical effects to CGI, the conversion is pretty good. The characters, sets and animation is rendered well. The voice actors for their respective dubs are also performed competently. Writing is slightly above average with an okay story even though it tends to leave some main characters in the background. The saddest part is the lack of iconic music that was once so profound in its presence, no longer at the forefront. Without this movie, the modle railway series would still be around. Everything about this movie was awesome. The characters, the voice acting (US version) were amazing, and the introduction of Hiro into the Thomas and Friends universe was great. And it's better than its sequel Misty Island Rescue.
