, 65% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA Sports Movie Classic. It's a Romance & a Sports Drama together. The first half isn't bad but man the biggest problem this has is it takes forever to get to the point sometimes. There are lots of scenes especially any with Russo & Costner together where the dailouge and whole interaction just meanders and takes way longer than it needs to to get to the point. This is a 1 Hour 47 minute film total probably that has about 30 minutes of extra length that could be cut and nothing would be lost. Most of that issue though is in the first half. The second half especially the final 30 minutes or so of golf is the best part and is well done. The golf stuff is more interesting than the romance I think as it's pretty basic stuff seen in a lot of sports films. But golf isn't a sport that you see that often compared to Baseball or Basketball especially. Another issue is the golf stuff is hard to follow if you don't know anything about golf. You do have to know the rules and all a bit or it doesn't make full sense. The acting also isn't bad led by Costner who is great the entire time as a likeable down on his luck hard headed charming slacker. Everyone else is decent or just alright though. Everything else though is good enough I'd say. The whole uS Open ending really is where the film finds it's stride and focuses on the best part. It's message of people remember the risk takers not the sticks in the mud can get a little lost in the meanderment and not knowing the exact rules but it works overall and it's subject matter is rpetty unique as well which helps set it apart. Anyone who is a big sports film fan, golf fan, or fan of any actors in this should check this out.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsa film that I really like because it promotes the beauty of the moment rather than the final goal. Jubilant, funny, exciting
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI love this film because it encourages the beauty of an act rather than its finality, the beauty of the moment. A very underrated film
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsHow is this score so low?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsFun entertaining and well acted.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsNot a fan of golf but this entertained me!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsLove cheech's role in this film and Costner is a fun lead....but the climax and main theme is absurd. 'Just go for it no matter the consequences' is just about the dumbest golf strategy possible....His therapist (who is banging him after one session btw!!) convinces him to try and carry 255 yards over water into the wind when he can simply lay up and make the green to win like 10 million dollars. I felt bad for his caddy who has to watch him shoot the same awful shot 10 times in a row...the fact that people cheer and love him when he finally makes it, while dropping like 20 places in the tournament, is hilarious -- this would be known as an all time collapse and no body would cheer it on.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsFunny and original, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Ages 17+ only; starring Cheech Marin, Kevin Costner, etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsLove Kevin Costner and Renee Russo Not my kind of movie though, too long and the golf scenes are too far in ‘spades' so to speak
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt's a cute movie, with a goofy premise. Costner plays a lovable loser. Who is a good golf player. It's funny, and likeable. If it's in I'll watch it.
