Trainwreck

Though her new film Trainwreck, directed by Judd Apatow, isn't a wreck - there's plenty of material to laugh about - it remains disappointingly myopic.

Trainwreck is a complete blast. Even as it sends up rom-com clichés, it manages to be both seriously funny and genuinely romantic.

Enjoyable enough, and certainly not a trainwreck - it just doesn't quite clear the platform.

Schumer's performance is a tour de force of razor-sharp comedic timing.

Trainwreck is both the best romantic comedy of the year as well as its most crushing disappointment.

If you're not into Schumer's crassness and randomness, the film is going to feel like episodic fits and starts within a flawed romantic comedy that feels like pieces from different and better films.

It's worth enduring a few inane jokes and about a half-hour of pointless material to experience the smart, funny, raunchy, and touching humor Schumer and Apatow deliver.

It might be the year's best comedy.

At its core, this is a successful big screen debut from an undeniable comic talent.
