Unit 234

With its plot driven by a convenient lack of common sense among its characters, this confined thriller struggles to unlock much suspense.

Unit 234 tries to look more interesting than it is with a plot twist near the end of this sloppily made mystery drama about criminals invading a storage space business. There are too many plot holes and too much cringeworthy acting.

A storage facility is an interesting setting for a story like this, and the work done by all involved is quite effective.

It's not a classic, but at the very least Unit 234 shows just how much both its actors and its director are capable of, when given the chance.

In economical thrillers like this, directors should use the limited scale to their advantage, but here the obvious twists suggest an utter lack of confidence in the premise.

A lot of this does eventually feel as if the screenplay is figuratively running in circles, while the characters might literally be doing that on several occasions.

Unit 234’s weaknesses are few, and its strengths are many. It is an entertaining, tautly crafted b-movie noir that proves once and for all just how exciting a storage unit can be.

“Unit 234” actually makes its way to refreshingly dark final act, and the actors assembled mostly understand what’s required of them, getting the offering to moments of misery that are more compelling than the usual in chases and near-misses.
