Valiant One

You know those Sam Fuller movies, like Big Red One? This is one of those.

Valiant One, not unlike its protagonist, moves briskly, but in the end, says little.

An unpretentious B-movie made with A-grade effort, Valiant One packs decent action and mostly sturdy drama into the tale of U.S. soldiers whose mission near the DMZ goes haywire and leaves them stranded in North Korea.

Dull and forgettable.

Fairly engaging and pretty well done. Low budget, but well done.

Valiant One is a clumsily constructed action flick about U.S. Army members who are stuck in a forest with North Korean opponents. All of the characters have cardboard-like personalities. The Army characters' bad decisions are more valueless than valiant.

Valiant One is competently constructed and nonetheless coherent, but you’re better off watching Army recruitment videos&#59; they have the same jingoistic messaging without being disguised as a bad movie

This formulaic war thriller admirably salutes the courage and bravery of American combat troops, even if its heartfelt intentions are compromised by ham-fisted execution.

Valiant One tells the wrong side of an unconvincing story, but to its credit, the performances lend some credence to it.


It's an old and familiar setup, and co-writer/director Steve Barnett doesn't do nearly enough with it to make the movie unique or particularly interesting.
