Scenes work, but they don't pile up and build momentum.

An unappetizing mix of raucously vulgar comedy and teen-angst melodrama.

The football scenes are involving, the acting is up to snuff, and there is something about those last days of high school that remains a solid background for even the most familiar of stories.

Varsity Blues is a fun, teen movie but that is about it.

Now, 25 years later, even when realizing that maybe the heroes of this story shouldn’t have their faults laughed off so much (Tweeder really should be in jail), there’s still a lot of good left.
