Veneno

, 86% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5 Stars is the only thing I can give to the best Dominican movie I have seen in years. I met Jack Veneno once in the late 80's in the Palacio De Los Deportes in Santiago. He was selling tickets at the ticket window himself before his cage match vs Puño De Hierro. It was one of the highlights of my childhood. I hope they make the sequels.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI was really surprised at how far Dominican Cinema has come but this movie was really good. The story was told really well and I was very impressed with the acting. The way they tied in history and Dominican culture while telling the story of the legendary Jack Veneno was great. Definitely recommend this film.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsAs a fan of foreign films, I was happily surprised to see Veneno opening at my local AMC super complex. The opening credits are creatively presented as if on actual lucha libre promotional posters. The music helps create a delirious atmosphere during the wrestling matches and other fast-paced scenes. Camera shots of Santo Domingo and other outside scenes are luxurious in their scope and dream-like quality. Dark clouds and lightening underline the impending conflicts between wrestlers/friends. I had a bit of trouble keeping up with the subtitles as the rapid fire of Spanish kept the story moving. My fault though; not the movie. All in all, I loved it and can't wait for the sequel in 2020.
