Weathering With You is still good, but this is a big step down in comparison to Your Name at least in my opinion. The story, characters, and visuals work very well in this movie, but there is one major complaint I have that takes it away from being a masterpiece… It involves spoilers, and that’s the fact that this girl willingly sacrificed herself for the sake of clear weather, but the boy went straight back to her without even thinking about the consequences of his actions. And as a result Tokyo is completely submerged underwater. Not that I don’t mind intense love, but that doesn’t change the fact that millions of people lost their homes and lives. And to me this is just kind of a big deal, because the boy didn’t have the strength to accept the greater good and it kinda results in a Lukewarm ending which I didn’t understand. I think it’s a heartwarming story and very heavy on romance, but it’s definitely not the best ending in my opinion. I definitely think it’s worth watching, especially if you love anime romance!

Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) is a visually stunning and emotionally resonant film that beautifully balances romance, fantasy, and social commentary. With its heartfelt story and jaw-dropping animation, it cements itself as another masterpiece from the visionary director Makoto Shinkai. The film follows Hodaka, a runaway teenager who arrives in a perpetually rain-soaked Tokyo, struggling to find his place in the city. His life changes when he meets Hina, a girl with a mysterious ability. As their bond deepens, they navigate a world that is both magical and unforgiving, facing choices that will test their love and fate itself. Shinkai’s signature visuals are on full display, with Tokyo’s rain-drenched streets, glowing cityscapes, and stunning cloud formations rendered in breathtaking detail. The animation is so immersive that you can almost feel the raindrops falling. The way light interacts with water in this film is nothing short of mesmerizing. Beyond its visual splendor, Weathering With You carries a deeper message about climate change, sacrifice, and the struggle between personal happiness and greater responsibility. The film doesn’t just tell a love story; it questions what we’re willing to risk for the people we care about. RADWIMPS once again delivers a phenomenal soundtrack, with songs like Grand Escape and Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do amplifying the film’s emotional highs and lows. The music seamlessly blends with the narrative, making key moments even more powerful. With its compelling characters, stunning animation, and an ending that defies expectations, Weathering With You is a cinematic experience that stays with you long after the credits roll. It’s a story about love, hope, and embracing the storms of life - both literal and metaphorical.

"Weathering with You" is an animated film from acclaimed director Makoto Shinkai. The story follows a girl who can control the weather. A boy becomes acquainted with her and together they decide to start a small business where they bring sunny days to customer's events. As the story goes, greater mysteries unfold, and perhaps romantic feelings develop between the two. Starting with the sunny side, this film is gorgeous. Every frame could be hung up in a museum, it is stunning to behold. The music by the Radwimps is great. It will easily find itself at home in my playlist. The film also has terrific English voice acting, so my fellow dub fans can rejoice. I love magic realism stories that treat these magical abilities like simply cool talents people can have. I also like stories of small businesses rising up and finding success. In a way, the set up reminds me of "Kiki's Delivery Service", which is always a good thing to remind me of. The girl's ability to control the weather is not seen as evil or a scientific anomaly, they are just seen as being useful. The chemistry between the two main leads is also very well done. I could really buy them as friends or friends with benefits. On the cloudy side, this movie does have some pacing problems. The movie seems to build to a natural conclusion, but then a couple side stories get introduced and an additional challenge is tacked on. Without giving anything away, the ending also feels incomplete. Almost as if it is a video game where not all the collectables were gathered. The main emotion I think of for this movie is stressful. There are job hunts, police chases, runaways and a ticking time bomb element that keeps me on edge throughout the film. Not necessarily a bad thing, just a heads up for all those planning on watching. And after all is said and done, you should plan on watching. This forecast calls for a nice viewing experience for the next 2 hours.
