A thoroughly enjoyable romantic comedy. entertaining. I never had a great interest in Gene Hackman until I read about his tragic passing. I never heard of this movie, but decided to see it on a streaming service partly because Hackman was in it. I had not realized how talented he was. He was utterly convincing as a former president of the United States. A very versatile actor. This is a lighthearted movie with a few laughs here and there. Lovely, appealing story. I recommend this to anyone who wants a pleasant 100 minute escape.

I didnt watch it but to me it looks like one of those movies where they got so excited by the fact they could make a film that they never stopped to think if they should make a film. 17 THUMBS UP OUT OF 100 didnt mean for caps to be on just then.

I find this film a very light hearted underrated comedy film and a nice last laugh for Gene Hackman.

Im confounded as to how bad these reviews. As a rom-com, you kinda accept a low bar on plot. With that premise accepted, I thought this movie had a very fun and quirky heart to it. Great cast and a lot of fun. Great soundtrack too.

The iconic Gene Hackman and Ray Romano are steamrolled by the unfunny, lackluster and sorely stunted screenplay.

This was Gene Hackman's last movie role, and Ray Romano's first time on the big screen. Romano was good enough on television with "Everybody Loves Raymond", but he seemed at sea in this movie. Not that the story was anything to write home about. The story involves a just-retired two-term President who travels to the title small town when the current mayor dies in office. The President is divorcing his wife, and has a vacation home in the town which he wants to keep, so he runs for mayor in the special election. Meanwhile, the local hardware store owner played by Romano has his girlfriend ready to leave him, so he runs for mayor to impress her. This movie is not really about politics so much as a romantic comedy. It is at best mildly amusing, and if you want to be amused by Ray Romano, stick to reruns of the "Everybody Loves Raymond" show instead.
