When the Mountains Tremble

Other people were able to talk about her, I didn't know nothing about her so I couldn't say anything. Few days later, I watched this movie and I thought about my amazing friend Paul Yamaguchi. He's been helping Guatemalans although he doesn't make money from it. That type of volunteers deserve the Nobel Peace prize too. Now I'd like to read the book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThose who don't know much about Guatemalan history may find this film a bit hard to understand, but those who already have the required background knowledge will find a powerful and eye-opening (if at times a bit choppy and one-sided) window into mid-80's Guatemala.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe use of archival footage to tell the story in this documentary is really, really well-executed.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsVery well made and significant, with some particularly striking documentary footage of combat between Mayans and the Guatemalan military. To me, the US involvement was the most interesting part for me, as we (Reagan) were actually funding the military to kill simple Mayan families. Good to see our tax dollars being used to exterminate villages with children.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis was a much better documentary than I thought it would be--saw it shortly after returning from Guatemala. I was surprised how well-made it was and how much actual footage they had., filmed during the rough civil war years, it gives you a good idea of the horrors that were occurring at the time
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIntense. Important. Wish more folks were interested in this story. Well made film as well, the commentary was excellent.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsLet us all take a history lesson and do not let it happen again!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsPowerful story of the struggle of the Guatemalan people against U.S.-backed dictatorships which carried out a protracted war against the country's indigenous and poor.
