This movie was a bit of a let down for me. Most of the performances here were good, although I wouldn't say quite great. Some of the plot threads felt unnecessary while one of them I found kind of interesting.

As bad a storyline I've ever had to endure

The unsympathetic main character Veronica destroys the otherwise well-made movie completely. Even the antagonists arouse more sympathy.

Great cast, however the storyline was very disconnected. The plot leaves you with more unanswered questions than answers. There was a lot of irrelevant scenes and information. There was not enough development of the pertinent characters and scenes.

Led by a top-notch ensemble cast and an auteur at the helm, this cynical pseudo-subversion of the heist genre rarely achieves the synergistic promise of its constitutive parts. The plot twists like a snake through themes of political power, misogyny, racism, police brutality, corruption, yet with a degree of disillusionment that pervades and flattens the film. There is so much suffering on display here, so many narrative convolutions, such a range of rage and latent structural violence, that even as these threads give human depth to the performances they do not tie together in a way that matters to one another or to the emotions of the audience.

Just good enough for me to go fresh. This was horribly predictable and cliched, but carried by great performances which made it worth sitting through.
