Will (2024) is just another WWII movie. It’s not a bad movie. But it’s not doing anything to push the medium, and the areas where it attempts to are more exhausting than impactful.



It’s clear-sighted on the cruel compromises of occupation and collaboration, but so fatalistic about them that it winds up wallowing in its own guilt and hopelessness. That’s a dark kind of truth, and not necessarily one that anyone needs to hear.

The film never gives any definitive answers. It presents the story and its protagonist’s dilemma in a brutally honest and hard-to-watch manner. That’s probably why Will is so hard to digest.
