I was saddened to find this is the only movie Austin Chick has directed and written so far.If and when his next one comes out,I will see it.I was definitely frustrated to some degree at certain points in this movie, but I was drawn more and more in physiologically to the characters feeling that by the end the final scene just blew me away.Mark Ruffalo is fun to watch on screen. So for this being one good indie film I give "XX/XY" a C.

Short and sweet that sneaks in a nice dose of reality. Surprising in our world of immediate gratification, how trust is so much sexier!

An exceptionally realistic examination of the complexity of interpersonal relationships. Didn't expect it to be a good movie at all. The cinematography, writing, and music all exceeded my expectations. Mark ruffalo perfectly portrayed not just another man in this modern society that's filled with people conflicted by serial monogamous relationships, but women can definitely identify with his painful struggle with love and reality as well. What does friendship mean when it comes to love and lust? What role can honesty really play in a "healthy" relationship? This movie cannot explain these perennial mysteries. However, the director certainly succeeded in revealing why happiness becomes rarer and rarer as we grow up, make decisions, and deal with the consequences coming out of those decisions...implicitly subtle, of course

Basing my rating on how I felt watching it: Uncomfortable. I hesitate to say it was "bad" because perhaps that was the intention. Perhaps I have a sore-spot for not only infidelity, but sociopathic actions towards people in terms of sexuality.
