**Review: *Young Woman and the Sea* (★★★☆☆)** Always a sucker for a good sports biopic, and this one swims just fine. Surprisingly, Daisy Ridley — who I’m not usually a fan of — really delivers, and the whole cast is solid. It’s inspiring, no doubt, but also exactly what you'd expect: no surprises, no twists, no real tension. You already know how it ends, so it never quite hooks you emotionally or keeps you on edge. It’s like reading a Wikipedia page with waves and nice acting. Good? Absolutely. Great? Not really. Worth a watch, just don’t expect to be blown out of the water.

You can tell they were pushing an agenda but the story is still interesting.

This movie is absolutely amazing – an extremely heartwarming masterpiece based on a true story. It's an absolute must-see! I truly wish Disney would release it on Blu-ray and DVD, as it's far too good to remain a streaming service exclusive. It deserves to be seen by a wider audience.

I checked this out because it had great reviews but I did expect it to be boring as it is a period piece about swimming. I was incredibly wrong. Truly a great captivating film that made me want to learn more about Trudys real life story. The film also has an incredible score. One of the best movies of 2024

I love this movie. It is weird that I have never heard of it until my friend told me how fantastic it is!

A must see. A real story of a woman inspiring another women, not by tweets, but with an impressive feat. Jerry Bruckheimer's production is mesmerizing. Daisy Ridley, beautiful and powerful. Last half hour I was in the edge of my seat. Just perfect.

Young Woman and the Sea is a great tribute to the lead woman while advocating for woman’s rights.

Very Disneyfied and oddly paced, especially at the beginning. Daisy Ridley was pretty good but hardly looks convincing as a swimmer. Steven Graham as always was excellent but was hardly in it. The swimming scenes I found to be quite monotonous and the jellyfish looked very fake. In all I wouldn’t bother with this one, I much preferred the similar film Vindication Swim about the British Channel swimmer Mercedes Gleitze. That film is better made, more convincing (the jellyfish look far more realistic for instance) and is shot much nicer on what I can only assume was a significantly smaller budget. Watch that one and don’t waste your time with this.

Wow! This is a wonderful movie about an extraordinary woman! I was on the edge of my seat throughout the movie! It was an amazing feat that she was able to swim the English channel. Beautifully filmed and the acting was outstanding Highly recommended!
