Founded by Hollywood.com, AMC Entertainment, National Amusements, Famous Players and CBS, Online Ticketing Service Now Available
(Boca Raton, FL - May 25, 2000) – MovieTickets.com, Inc., an online movie ticketing service, launched today in conjunction with the blockbuster moviegoing Memorial Day Weekend. The site is now available in the U.S., and plans to launch in Canada on September 1.
The launch announcement was made jointly by founding partners Mitchell Rubenstein, chairman and CEO of Hollywood.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOLL); Peter Brown, chairman and CEO of AMC Entertainment Inc. (AMEX: AEN); Shari E. Redstone, president of National Amusements; and John Bailey, president of Famous Players Inc.
By combining the theatre circuits of AMC Theatres, the largest theatrical exhibition company in North America in terms of revenues; National Amusements (Showcase Cinemas and Multiplex Cinemas), one of the preeminent international theatre operators; Famous Players, Canada's top-grossing and fastest-growing theatrical exhibitor; Marcus Theatres, one of the most profitable theatre circuits in the country; and 15 additional movie theatre companies, MovieTickets.com now consists of approximately 5500 movie theatre screens.
"We are thrilled to present moviegoers with an easy and convenient way to reserve their movie tickets in advance online," said Mitchell Rubenstein. "People have become increasingly comfortable with Internet services, and we are confident they will find MovieTickets.com extremely helpful in making their moviegoing plans."
The process for purchasing tickets online is simple for the consumer. A user clicks on www.MovieTickets.com, enters their zip code so they can find nearby theatres, selects a movie and showtime, and reserves their tickets with a credit card. Then, they simply go to the theatre's Will Call window, customer service counter or automated ticketing machines located in the theatre's lobby, and pick up their reserved tickets. The service will initially have no service charge, so users will pay the same amount online as at the box office. The site will be supported by advertising sales.
In addition to online movie ticket sales, MovieTickets.com distinguishes itself by offering comprehensive information about current and future movie releases. The site features movie reviews, trailers, entertainment news, coverage of movie premieres and data on current movies.
MovieTickets.com will employ the latest technology for maintaining data security and will allow customers to register with the Web site to easily purchase movie tickets without entering credit card information every time. MovieTickets.com owns both the MovieTickets.com and MovieTicket.com URLs to ensure that moviegoers can easily locate the site.
The Company recently signed an agreement in principle for CBS to receive a 5% ownership position in MovieTickets.com, Inc. Under terms of the relationship, MovieTickets.com will receive $25 million of CBS advertising across the full range of CBS media properties over a period of five years.
MovieTickets.com is the dedicated Internet site for the online sale of movie tickets, with additional content to assist users with their moviegoing plans.
